“A fast was proclaimed before the Lord, and the people were called to fast in the house of the Lord.” Jeremiah 36-9
By the great mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who forgives our sins, we have been blessed to reach the Holy Fast of the Apostles in the year 2025 in peace and good health.
The Holy Church teaches us that the apostles, before they began their apostolic ministry and after receiving the Holy Spirit, spent time in fasting and prayer.
During this season of the Fast of the Apostles, we understand that the true beginning of apostolic service is when a person willingly submits the desires of the body to the will of the soul. Through Christian conduct, this becomes the trustworthy foundation to begin serving God.
Beloved!
The time we are living in requires true shepherds who live apostolic lives. Now, more than ever, the Church needs leaders with the wisdom to guide it like the Holy Apostles. (Acts 20:28)
The life of the apostles was not only about the suffering they endured for Christ but also about the spiritual joy they received through serving. Their example teaches us the path we should follow: to live as true Christians and to begin our ministry to serve the Church of Christ with joy in the Spirit.
During this time of fasting, we should believe that the blessings we receive from fasting are God’s kind responses to our prayers. Through this, we must come to understand that the many challenges facing our Church are not beyond God’s knowledge or power. We should accept some difficulties as part of God’s plan, knowing that nothing can overcome the Church if we stand strong in faith.
In conclusion: During this fasting season, in our prayers and supplications before God, we must remember the Orthodox Tewahedo Church and offer our service with humility so that it may be pleasing to God.
Glory be to God — Amen!
May God bless Ethiopia and Africa
