Relations With Eastern orthodox Church

`

Current Relationship Between the Ethiopian Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox Churches

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches (such as the Russian, Greek, and Serbian Orthodox Churches) are not in full communion due to historical Christological differences since the Council of Chalcedon (451 AD). However, their relationship today is peaceful, respectful, and cooperative.

  • Both churches recognize each other as ancient, apostolic Christian traditions.
  • There is ongoing theological dialogue aimed at resolving doctrinal differences, especially around the nature of Christ.
  • They often collaborate on ecumenical platforms, interfaith dialogue, and social issues.
  • Church leaders and theologians participate in bilateral visits and joint conferences.

While full unity has not been achieved, the relationship is warm and improving, with a shared commitment to Christian values and global fellowship.
